What's Happening In Greece? - Find Out 15th January

Merseyside Anarchists | 08.01.2009 19:07 | Social Struggles | Liverpool

Political corruption, economic collapse, obscene inequalities and police and state repression made such an explosive mixture that the killing of teenage Alexandros Grigoropoulos blew up in the face of the Greek ruling class. WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW?

The strikes, occupations, protests, blockades and police violence have been going on for weeks with an increasing toll of arrested, gaoled and disappeared. WHAT CAN WE DO?

Because many of the protesters are libertarians, socialists and anarchists, the Merseyside Anarchist Federation has organised a night of solidarity and fund raising for the victims of Greek state brutality.

Venue: The Liverpool Social Centre, The Basement, 96a Bold Street (below News From Nowhere Bookshop)

Date: Thursday 15th January

Time 7.30pm - 11pm

A report and latest update on the Greek situation, its origins and the forms of protest and repression will be followed by music performed for free by:

Alun Parry, Liverpool's (better than) Billy Bragg
Claire Mooney
Thomas Western

Refreshments available including Greek food and mulled wine(!), all to raise money for Greeks in struggle.
