Greek Riot Police shot with Kalashnikov automatic weapons in Athens

Reports have come in that a 21 year old riot police man in Exarchia, Athens has been serious injured by bullets from a Kalashnikov gun.

Apparently two men fired upon the riot cop around 3am.

Currently Exarchia is sealed off, dozens of people have been arrested in and around various bars and cafes often frequented by anarchists. Police have detained 72 people during the initial search for suspects after the attack

Note that many are sceptical about these events:

"Our initial thought is that any individual that is part of our movement, no matter how enraged or in support of urban guerilla tactics they might be, would not chose the area of Eksarhia (literally under police occupation for the past few days) in order to launch an attack of this kind and manage to escape safely.

Therefore, we cannot consider coincidental the fact that mass media, politicians and their lackeys have been building up an atmosphere where some dynamic revenge action against the cops was imminent."
