Jenny from the International Solidarity Movement in the Gaza Strip explains why demos are necessary

Jenny sailed into Gaza 4 months ago as one the crew of the first Free Gaza boat sailings which broke the siege of the area by sea. She has been accompanying fishermen and doing peacework. Since the shelling started has been based in Rafah on the border with Egypt, she said yesterday-

“Imagine the sense of isolation and abandonment when an entire population is under attack and the world seemingly sits back and allows it to happen. It is vital that they know people would stop these atrocities immediately if they could. A connection to the outside world is a lifeline.”

Jenny has been document attacks in the area and their effects-

morning Thursday 1st January,
“The Shabora refugee camp of Rafah, close to the city centre.
This civilian neighbourhood (one of the most densely populated places in the Gaza Strip) was hit during an Israeli air strike shortly before midnight on Wednesday. The missile struck a small park without warning, destroying large numbers of surrounding homes and shops. Dr. Abdullah Shehada, director of the Abu Yusef Al-Najar Hospital in Rafah, confirmed that a 33 year-old woman and a 22 year-old man were killed and nearly 60 people were injured, 18 of them woman and 16 of them children. Several elderly people were also injured, a couple of them seriously.”

Vigils and Demos against the attacks in Gaza will be taking place in a number of places tomorrow, including a protest in Exeter Saturday 3rd January 12noon, Bedford Square, High Street. and a National demonstration Called by Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Stop the War Coalition, British Muslim Initiative, CND and more than 30 organisations. Will be assembling in London at 12:30pm, Embankment, WC2
