Vets Beyond Borders: Project Vet-Train, India

This six-month pilot programme entails the formation of a clinical team to deliver concise and carefully-targetted training to Indian veterinarians and para-veterinarians, to enhance and standardise the quality of veterinary services provided by veterinary personnel working with animal welfare groups in India. Project Vet-Train is made possible as a result of the generous support of its major sponsors, The Marchig Animal Welfare Trust and RSPCA International.

The programme is scheduled to commence in January 2009 and will run for six months. The team will be based at the National Institute of Animal Welfare near Delhi and will deliver clinical training to groups of around 20 veterinarians and para-veterinarians in blocks of three weeks duration, focusing on the principles and application of sound anaesthetic and surgical technique and appropriate peri-operative care of small animals. The project will be managed by the veterinary director of VBB, assisted by a local coordinator.

Vets Beyond Borders is seeking suitably-experienced colleagues to staff the team. Veterinarians should hold a degree registrable in Australia and veterinary nurses should have successfully completed an accredited training course.

Applicants must be able to commit to a minimum placement of three weeks and preference may be given to those applicants willing to commit to longer placements, up to the full six months. The rate of remuneration will be dependent upon the duration of the placement. International travel expenses will be covered and full board in apartment-style, air-conditioned accommodation will be provided.
