NY plan to tax non-diet drinks [with aspartame info]

- | 17.12.2008 16:57 | Health | Repression | World

Governor David Patterson is proposing to tax non-diet versions of soft drinks by 15%

Presented as a 'fat tax' this legsilation would be the first to distinguish between diet and non-diet products.

Despite being blamed for high levels of obesity, regular soft drinks are no where near as dangerous as the diet versions. Diet drinks contain large amounts of aspartame; a poison so dangerous that it was illegal until pushed through Congress by the companies who produce it. It is linked to seizures, cancers, mental disorders and the degeneration of neurons - affecting eyesight and a person's general ability to notice what is going on around them. To this effect, all US airforce pilots are banned from consuming any products containing aspartame.

There is also substantial evidence for a US governmental cover-up of the dangers of aspartame - present in most diet soft drinks as well as almost all sweeteners.

By taxing only 'fat' drinks as they are now known for some bizarre reason, the NY legislation is actively encouraging the consumption of dangerous levels of a known poison - a poison that is 300 hundered times sweeter than sugar, and a spoonful of which can kill a dog.

The damage done by this proposed law will also, of course, be compounded by the economic recession in the US, as people turn increasingly to cheaper products.

We need to look beyond the surface explanations for these supposed 'fat taxes' on food and actively research their health implications.

Spread the word.
