Release Muntadar al-Zaidi
Shoe protest at the US Embassy, Grosvenor Square
Friday 19 December 2009,1.00pm

Iraqi journalist, Muntadar al-Zaidi, is being held in custody and has been
subject to maltreatment, after throwing his shoes at George W Bush. This was a
symbolic protest against the man responsible for the deaths of hundreds of
thousands of Iraqis. His chosen missiles were a lot less deadly than the bombs,
shells, bullets and instruments of torture that the US President has launched
against the people of Iraq. Stop the War Coalition will be supporting Media
Workers Against the War when they deliver their letter to the US Embassy this
Friday. We are asking people to bring shoes to be delivered to the Embassy with
the letter in solidarity with the Iraqi people.

MWAW LETTER

Robert Holmes Tuttle
US Ambassador to the Court of St James's
24 Grosvenor Square
London
W1A 2LQ

Dear Sir,

We as journalists believe that our colleague Muntadar al-Zaidi, who protested
at President George W. Bush in Baghdad on Sunday is guilty of nothing but
expressing Iraqis' legitimate and overwhelming opposition to the US-led
occupation of their country.

We call on you to guarantee his safety and effect his immediate release from
custody.

Not knocking it...

but where were these guys when Sami Al-Haj had cancer in Guantanamo Bay and what are they doing about Tayseer Al-Allouni in Spain? I can see that MWAW's remit has to do with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan but what are they doing/did they do about these two journalists picked up in Afghanistan and tortured and abused and still held following an unfair trial in Allouni's case? And other journalists and media workers expressing their freedom of expression about the situation there?

Solidarity with the Iraqi people...

A.

a better idea!

first of all do some early spring cleaning. clear out all those old shoes amd trainers you dont need. tie them in pairs.

then insert the following note inside them:

dear usa, please free Muntadar al-Zaidi. stop behaving like plonkers. when you have finished with these traners give them to the needy.

then head for grovesner square, aim high. they will get the message if enough shoes are "donated".

if you manage to take a picture of shoes lodged in interesting places, then post it here. we need a laugh. Muntadar al-Zaidi's captors probably don't.
