Mustafa Back in Nottingham where he belongs
"Mustafa was released from Campsfield House IRC yesterday and arrived back in Nottingham late last night. He was released with nowhere to stay, but his friends were waiting. His campaign and Mustafa send many, many big thank yous' to all the people who have signed petitions, faxed letters, been out in the cold getting signatures and letters signed. He still needs the signatures so he asks that people continue to circulate the petition around their contacts. Mustafa is please to be back for Eidd as he was detained on the eve of Ramadan so there will be many reasons to celebrate."

On Mustafas' behalf Thank you all,

Miriam Hollis for the Campaign

Unannounced Inspection of Campsfield House Immigration Removal Centre

Report on an unannounced full follow-up inspection of Campsfield House Immigration Removal Centre 12 - 16 May 2008 by HM Chief Inspector of Prisons, report compiled September 2008, published Tuesday 2nd December 2008

'average length of stay had increased significantly since our last visit, from 14 to 46 days'

'quantity and quality of education provision remained inadequate'

' Detainees had little faith in the complaints system and the rewards scheme required review'

'Detainees under threat of criminal prosecution should be assured of normal legal safeguards, including free legal advice. (3.6) Not achieved. A number of detainees had been threatened with criminal prosecution for non-compliance with removal, including for failing to cooperate with removal to Iraq.

'Written reasons for detention should be provided in a language the detainee can understand. (4.15) Not achieved. Reasons for and monthly reviews of detention were only in English.'

Introduction: Campsfield House IRC Introduction Campsfield House immigration removal centre, near Oxford, holds adult male detainees and is run on behalf of the UK Border Agency (UKBA) by GEO Group UK Ltd. In 2007, a series of major disturbances took place at the centre, including the setting of fires, damage to property and escapes. It is, therefore, to the credit of staff and managers that this full unannounced inspection found the centre had returned to normal and was now performing reasonably well in a number of areas, although more remained to be done.
