EARTH LIBERATION FRONT PRESS OFFICE TO NEW OBAMA ADMINISTRATION: PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT OR THE ELF WILL
Washington, D.C. - The North American Earth Liberation Front Press Office (NAELFPO) challenged the incoming Obama Administration Tuesday to take immediate action to reverse the trend of global warming and environmental destruction.
"The incoming Obama Administration's plan for the environment, or lack thereof, may very well influence the activities of the Earth Liberation Front throughout the next four years," stated Lisa Nesbitt, one of four new press officers for the NAELFPO. "The $150 million in damages caused by the ELF in the last decade to environmentally destructive corporations was, in part, a direct response to the refusal of the U.S. Government to take necessary measures to stop environmental destruction."
The Earth Liberation Front, or ELF, is an international, underground movement consisting of autonomous groups of people who engage in direct actions to protect the planet. Formed in 1992 in Brighton, England as an offshoot of the Earth First! organization, the ELF has been active in the United States since 1996. Since that time the group has conducted dozens of actions across the country and North America resulting in over $150 million in damages. Notorious ELF actions have included the $24 million arson attack at Colorado's Vail Ski Resort in 1998 and the $50 million arson attack on a five-story condominium project in San Diego, CA in 2003.
Since the year 2001, the ELF has been considered the top domestic terror threat by the F.B.I.
"The U.S. Government has refused to sign the Kyoto Protocol, refused to permanently protect the Artic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), refused to stop the logging of national forests, and refused to heighten the Energy Act standards for light cars, trucks and commercial vehicles - the greatest contributor to global warming," Nesbitt continued. "We have one message for the incoming Obama Administration: act to protect the environment or the ELF will."
First established in 2000 as the public face of the Earth Liberation Front direct action movement, the NAELFPO returned on October 31, 2008 opening its doors to four new regional offices and press officers in the United States: Lisa Nesbitt (Northeastern Bureau); Tomas Peterson (Northwestern Bureau); Kristina Sanchez (Southwestern Bureau); and Jason Crawford (Midwest Bureau).

What real direct action group would choose a label of being 'terrorists'? It's not even true - 9/11 made jihadis the biggest terror threat and which environmental group would even want to set up comparisons with Al Qaeda? Even real terrorists claim to be freedom fighters not terrorists. Funny this group was unheard of until the John Vidal article this year and then NETCU talking them up to the Observer.
HOWEVER: if you view that website, they can have you for "viewing a terrorist website", because the above article touts "terror" credentials. BEWARE.

Jihadis aren't a *domestic* threat, that's the difference.
Being considered a "terrorist" by the FBI is an honour, and it doesn't mean you are a real terrorist - it's those who destroy the environment that are the real eco-terrorists.
Seems to me the group is genuine, they were around for years and just took a break for a year or two recently.
It's bullshit to say you can be done for visiting a link. If you are worried, just use Tor to hide your IP address.
All the Press Office does is publicise and explain the illegal actions of others, so the website can in no way be considered "terrorist".

I see what you mean about a domestic terror threat, but considering that the UK has a domestic jihadi terror threat (with actual attacks) from UK nationals and domiciles, I would think that would now be considered a greater threat over there than ELF if it exists. Anyway, I would also think a domestic terror threat includes those lawfully in the US, as opposed to infiltrators and to assailants on Americans and American property abroad.
