In response to the financial crisis governments worldwide have bailed out the banks and
financiers to the tune of billions. It is clear that the bankers and the politicians who
support them are intent on making us pay for their crisis if we do not resist.
The crisis in the financial system caused by the greed and irresponsibility of a privileged
minority, now threatens the living standards and future security of millions of ordinary working
people. Jobs, homes, savings, pensions and essential public services are at risk.
Thirty years of deregulation, privatisation, financialisation, tax-cutting and tax evasion have
resulted in an unprecedented widening of inequality and concentration of wealth in the hands
of the few, and a massive burden of risk transferred to the many ....

Here in the north east we face the ‘privatisation’ of the Metro system, widespread job
losses and cuts in services. We are also home to Northern Rock which has one of the
worst recent records in the country for house repossessions - despite a ‘rescue plan’
which will cost us billions. Yet another example of the ‘money men’ taking over our lives.
It’s time to put ‘People before Profit’. Sign the Charter and join the protests ...
