British Fascism and How to Fight It

Alan Davis | 04.11.2008 15:07 | Stop the BNP's Red White and Blue festival | Analysis | Anti-racism | Workers' Movements

International Bolshevik Tendency fringe public meeting at the Socialist Party's 'Socialism 2008' weekend. 1pm, Sunday 9 November in the Bloomsbury Suite, ULU, Malet St, London WC1E 7HY.

In August this year, anti-fascists failed to stop the BNP's Red,White & Blue Festival going ahead in Derbyshire. In September, anti-fascists in Cologne successfully blockaded the centre of town and stopped the far right from across Europe gathering at a planned conference. This meeting will include eyewitness reports and discuss the lessons of those events and how to classify and fight the BNP.

Learning lessons

04.11.2008 17:03

Antifascists may have been unable to stop this BNP's RWB 'festival' taking place at Codnor in Derbyshire this year, but because of disruption to the event caused by militant antifascists, who refused to be conned by the authoritarian Left, numbers were dramatically reduced and the event is unlikely to be held there again. Recently, militant antifascists in Leeds successfully blockaded the town centre and prevented the BPP's national conference going ahead (as well as disrupting the planned fascist demo.) We can always learn lessons, but let's make sure they're the right ones. When it comes to learning lessons about fascism, Bolsheviks make poor teachers.

When was the last time you heard of this shower breaking up a BNP meeting then?

Complete fantasists.

Smokescreen

Get real. The BNP are a smokescreen for the very real global fascism being bult by New Labour. Bolsheviks should have seen that for themselves. I bet they are not Leninists when it comes to arming the whole polulation. Nor are they scientific Marxists. .

Not true, they are holding it there again.

Differences?

05.11.2008 12:08

@
It might be easier to describe their similarities - they both go in for Great Leaders and the Cult of the Personality. Good Communists will have read Liu Shao Chi on Inner Party Struggle, but that is so long ago my memory may have both author and title wrong.

The big difference is that Bolsheviks should be trying to follow Marx and to get everything so well organised, with so much wealth in the system, that the State withers away, so Marx is trying to achieve a state of Anarchy. Lots of dogmatic Marxists think they have to turn themselves into Fascists to do that. Scientific Marxists stand on Marx's shoulders and look back to see where he went wrong, and then look forward to see where Society should be going.. Malthus is relevant there.

Hard line Leninists must be careful not to do what Lenin did, but follow what he said. "There must be no armed Police or standing Army over the People. There must only be the People, universally armed."

Don't you lefties ever learn???

Hard line Leninists must be careful not to do what Lenin did, but follow what he said. "There must be no armed Police or standing Army over the People. There must only be the People, universally armed." devoid of any Scientific Marxists, Leninists, Bolsheviks and others o their ilk.

At the break up of the first international when Bakunin split in exasperation from Marx he accurately predicted that if the people were to follow Marx's ideology then the result would be a tyranny of a bureaucratic class that would reinforce the power of the state and destroy peoples' freedom not encourage it.

History has vindicated him.

Any form of authoritarian socialism whether it is based in marx, lenin, mao or trotsky is doomed to failure and is a total non starter.

In fact Ilyan your proposition is only half right, it should read-

Hard line Leninists must be careful not to do what Lenin did

and that's it!

The only true socialism/communism is anarchy!

forward the revolution!!!! @ 325 @

WRONG "Phil"!

The BNP are currently looking at a site in Essex to hold next year's RWB.

Antifascist

Same place for RWB

08.11.2008 17:42

The BNP are already organising the event, they are open about it.
It is taking place at the same place. They may or may not get a drinks licence, but they went ahead without it at the last one.

They have already told the police that they will be holding it at the same place, and the police may next year stop anti fascists getting within a couple of miles of the site. Which given it's rural location would not be that difficult. Anti fascists had the chance to get on the site this year if they had wanted, but chose not to take that chance, they won't get the same chance next year when the police will be more prepared and numerous.

As for the Essex site, first I have heard, care to tell us more?

Phil

RWB 2009 - Mersea Island, Essex

11.11.2008 11:15

The location is in Essex on Mersea Island. It is partially being set-up by the organiser of the local Maldon group called Clive Godfrey. It has been in the pipe-line for a while. Griffin wants off of Warner’s place due to the amount of problems they got last time with no drinks or entertainment licence. He did not make anyway near the money he had banked on leading up to it. Let’s hope the Essex authorities afford them the same restrictions.

"the police may next year stop anti fascists getting within a couple of miles of the site."

As opposed to the UAF doing that?!

You're either ignorant of the facts Phil or you're deliberately spreading misinformation. As has already been said, current BNP plans for next year's RWB centre around Essex. As for antifascists getting to last year's site if they'd really wanted to, some of them made a bloody good effort, with dozens being brutalised by riot police guarding the site, and with 33 antifascists arrested.
