This Friday is Halloween—and student and trade union groups will be protesting in cities across the country against the horror that capitalism has brought upon the world.

Canary Wharf in London is where many of the biggest banks are based. They have dished out massive bonuses to their directors, yet are getting billion dollar bailouts that are paid for with working people’s money.

Every student group, trade unionist and community activist in the London area should join this demonstration. It is supported by the Socialist Workers Party, Reclaim the Streets, John McDonnell MP and various other campaign groups.

The Canary Wharf protest follows one held at the Bank of England on 10 October that saw hundreds of students march through the streets of the City demanding that we should not be paying for capitalism’s crisis.

Protests are also being held in Edinburgh, Cardiff, Manchester and Birmingham in the financial districts of these cities.

The demonstration in Edinburgh is set to be attended by several student delegations from outside the city, including from Aberdeen and Dundee.

The Edinburgh protesters will be assembling in Bristo Square at 12.30pm and then marching on the city’s financial district.

Cardiff’s protest is organised under the slogan “Bail out the people, not the bankers”.

It will be a lively demonstration involving performance poetry and face painters. Students, Green Party members and trade unionists are backing the event.

The London demonstration assembles at Canary Wharf tube station at 5pm on Friday 31 October and then sets off at 6pm to the offices of Lehman Brothers
