CSSGJ | 23.10.2008 08:41 | Globalisation | Workers' Movements

'What is Global Ethics?' by Kimberly Hutchings from the London School of Economics which will take place Monday 27th October from 4.00-5.30pm in the Conference Suite, University Staff Club, University Park Campus, University of Nottingham. The lecture is part of the 'Open Seminar Series' organised by the Centre for the Study of Social and Global Justice (CSSGJ).

What is Global Ethics?

The aim of the presentation is twofold. Firstly, to explore some of the issues and problems in defining the emergent field of theoretical inquiry called 'global ethics'. How does it relate to 'private', 'domestic' or 'international' ethics? What does it presume about the conditions of globalisation? Secondly, to examine predominant modes of ethical reasoning about global ethical issues and, in particular, raise questions about cosmopolitan rationalist approaches, including: contractualism; utilitarianism; deontology and communicative ethics.
