Trident nuclear weapons aren't, unfortunately, banned by the UN, but they should be; along with so-called "depleted uranium" (DU) weapons. The International Court of Justice, or World Court has, however, ruled the threat or use of nuclear weapons to be contrary to the principles of international humanitarian law. Also, the planned replacement of Trident and ongoing massive expansion of the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) at Aldermaston are arguably in breach of our "good faith" disarmament obligations under Article VI of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, or NPT.
Good luck to those in court and their supporters: hope it all goes well. There will be a Big Blockade of the Atomic Weapons Establishment at Aldermaston on Monday 27 October to oppose Trident and its replacement.
