4 November:Vigil Outside US Embassy:Liberty and Justice for All...

London Guantánamo Campaign | 17.10.2008 16:37 | Anti-militarism | Globalisation | Terror War | World

Forty years ago, protests were held outside the US Embassy against the Vietnam War. In 2008, on the day of the US presidential elections, the London Guantánamo Campaign is calling on whoever wins the election to change the record...enough of torture, illegal wars and the abuse of human rights and human beings. No more excuses, shut down Guantánamo

On 4 November 2008, the American people will go to the ballot boxes to vote for a new president, heralding a change for the first time in 8 years. Pitched against each other in a battle of words, both the main candidates have stated their commitment to change and to closing down Guantánamo Bay. The messages given out to the American people and the international community on the issue of US foreign policy has been more of a mixed bag.

On 4 November, the London Guantánamo Campaign invites you to join us for a vigil outside the US Embassy to call on the new American government to commit to upholding human rights and peaceful, legitimate solutions to domestic and foreign issues. Eight years of neo-imperialism, illegal wars, torture, extraordinary rendition and the flagrant and shameless abuse of human rights have not made the world a safer and more secure place but instead have led to economic and social crises, fear, insecurity and terror. We also call on the American people to hold their politicians to their commitments to human rights both at home and abroad.
