Arrests in Norfolk and Portsmouth

13.10.2008 16:04

There were three arrests in Norfolk this morning and I know of one in Portsmouth.

I haven't been able to contact friends in London either but not sure if that's because they were arrested.

Will update when I know

keep fighting

Multipke arrests

13.10.2008 16:17

This seems to have been a co-ordinated series of arrests in various parts of the country. Two people were taken in Norfolk first thing this morning and others in Derby and Leeds. It seems to be called 'Operation Fork' by the police and is focused on people involved with the liberation of farm animals.

Police station visit today - Norfolk

13.10.2008 16:46

They are being held at Diss Police Station which is in Stanley Road, Diss.

I went there at lunchtime to see them and let the police know I was a trained legal observer however permission was denied for me to see them.

We have contacted a local firm of solicitors on their behalf to ensure fair proceedings but the word is this is related to some raids on a Bernard Mathews turkey prison some months ago.

there will be a demo at the station tonight at 8pm, please come if you can make it

Kate

Portsmouth Raids?

13.10.2008 18:48

Who's meant to be raided in Portsmouth?
I've heard nothing and there's not anyone in Portsmouth that the police would bother raiding..
Was it definately Portsmouth or were you generalising? (ie. Fareham, Gosport etc)

Portsmouth Raids..

13.10.2008 19:42

We've not found anyone from the Portsmouth area that we cant get hold of who could have been raided, so we have no idea who it could be.
How were these raids discovered?
There are no reports anywhere other that this, surely the only source would be the one arrested ringing a friend, and therefore their name would be out there.
I dont understand how people know the location but not the person..?

SARC

SARC doesn't know everyone...

13.10.2008 20:08

SARC doesn't know all the AR people in southampton/portsmouth area. There are thousands of ALFers across the UK these groups like SARC have to realise that there are far more people aound than just those few in their little groups.

Overexagerations

13.10.2008 20:15

To be quite honest, where are all these ALFers? Considering the amount that goes up on Biteback, i wouldn't quite say thousands, possibly a douzen at a push?
We're actually trying to sort out whos been raided and why here, so i suggest unless you've got something decent to say - thats actually going to help people, then you hush.
And stop trying to create an arguement that isn't going to get anyone anywhere.
Thanks.

Careful of speculation and labelling

13.10.2008 20:39

I think it is really important at this moment to refrain from labelling arrestees as 'ALF' members or speculating too much over Indymedia. Lets not forget this is an open source and watched, and has been used in previous AR court cases. Even if caught for liberating animals does not automatically mean this person operates under the name of the ALF.. saying they do adds a lot of implications about what else they do and so on.. just a point to make. Thanks for the updates- any extra info (confirmed) would be fantastic :)

Not everything is covered by Biteback!

14.10.2008 12:08

Not every action is mentioned in Biteback. Probably only a very very small proportion of what happens would ever get a mention in Biteback.
