Peace camapaigners gather in Whitehall opposite Downing Street on the seventh of the month for a seven hour vigil seven years after Afghanistan is invaded by a US/UK led coalition in the opening salvo of the now disgraced so-called War on Terror.

They read out the names of those who have been killed during the misadventure including Afghani civilians and British soldiers.

In previous years those attending the ceremony had been arrested under sect 132-138 of the Serious Organised Crime and Police act (SOCPA), now collapsed and pending appeal due to Metropolitan police authorities meeting fierce resistance from peace campaigners.

The ceremony takes place as British military commanders in Afghanistan now concede that the war in Afghanistan cannot be won. London, October 07th 2008.

So would you rather Afghanistan was still under brutal Taliban rule?

So would you rather that Afghanistan was under brutal Taliban rule where women had no rights and anyone who stepped out of line was stoned to death. How many died or were tortured to death under Taliban rule? Mostly likely a hell of a lot more than have died since the liberation of Afghanistan in 2001 from brutal Taliban rule. Remember also that the Taliban allowed Afghanistan to become a haven for Al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden.

At least now Afghanistan has a democratic government and free elections and equality for women.
