Terror arrest victims speak out

IMC | 03.10.2008 19:35

On Thursday 2nd Oct, Nottingham University staff member, Hicham Yezza, and student, Rizwaan Sabir, spoke to new and returning students about their ongoing struggles against the system that branded them terrorists. They were joined by Nottingham South MP, Alan Simpson, who called for students to take the fight to the university.

Rizwaan Sabir - mp3 5.7M

Hicham Yezza - mp3 5.2M

The speeches can be downloaded from this article.

Hich and Rizwaan were wrongfully arrested on terror charges and held for 6 days despite clearly having nothing to do with terrorism. Hich was then subsequently arrested on alleged immigration violations as an attempt to deport and silence him ( http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/nottinghamshire/2008/05/399451.html). They are yet to receive any form of apology from their university, which has smeared and disowned them.

More information can also be found at the Free Hich campaign site ( http://freehicham.co.uk/).

On sale at the event was a new issue of Ceasefire, the political magazine edited by Hich, containing interviews with Noam Chomsky, Norman Finkelstein and Michael Albert.
