Dear Radio Friend,

This week's show features stories from China Radio International, Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana Cuba, and the Voice of Russia.
From CHINA- Three Chinese astronauts returned from their voyage on Sunday after completing the nation's first spacewalk. China will play a more active role at the United Nations, taking a turn as President of the Security Council. 45 African nations are holding a conference to ban the use of cluster bombs. Venezuelan President Chavez called the US financial crisis "a failure of free-market capitalism," predicted it would be worse than the crash of 1929, and called for the establishment of an international oil bank. Several European nations are bailing out their failing banks.
From NETHERLANDS- Three Dutch press reviews- first the effect of the global financial crisis in Europe. Then an innovative energy source for heating and cooling using the water sitting in abandoned mines. Then a story on the promotion of breast-feeding in public places in the Netherlands. An analysis of the referendum victory in Ecuador for a new Constitution.
From CUBA- The new US military Africa command, named Africomm, opened its doors in Stuttgart Germany, home of the US Command Center. An unmanned US military drone has fired missiles across the Pakistani border killing at least 6 people. Outgoing Israeli Prime Minister Olmert now says that Israel should withdraw from nearly all territory captured in the 1967 war in return for peace with Palestine and Syria.
From RUSSIA- Russian warships are on their way to military exercises in the Caribbean with Venezuela as host. There is speculation in Russia that Georgia would be used as a launching base for a US-led attack on Iran. A review of and commentary on the United Nations World Forum held last week.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday afternoon at 4:30pm (PDST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via
There are several other streams that work better- Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am.(PDST)
The Shortwave Report may be downloaded as a podcast from or iTunes (search for "shortwave" in podcasts)

I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)
