Congrats Bush & Brown: you've restarted the Cold War

With the USA signing deals left, right and centre with the UK, Czech Republic and Poland to site elements of its "Nuclear Missile Defence Shield" - or Son of Star Wars programme - in those respective countries; with the British parliament voting last year to replace its submarine-based Trident nuclear weapons system; and with recent US and NATO support for Georgia and the Ukraine, it should come as little surprise that Russia has announced plans to upgrade its own nuclear weapons systems, putting even more strain on the now beleaguered Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Hence, Bush, Cheney, Brown, Blair et al have managed to restart the Cold War. Well done, gentlemen.

CND condemns new nuclear arms race

The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament today expressed grave concern at "the latest phase in the new nuclear arms race". Russia today announced plans to upgrade its nuclear systems including new nuclear submarines and a system of aerospace defence. Mr Medvedev, the Russian President, said that the new systems were necessary in response to US plans to site missile defence facilities in Poland and the Czech Republic. The US has pressed ahead rapidly with these bases over the past few weeks in spite of majority popular opposition in those countries and clearly expressed Russian concern.

Russia To Upgrade Nuclear Deterrent By 2020

MOSCOW, Sept 27 (Bernama) -- With the recent five-day Georgia war highlighting its aging arsenal, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has ordered to upgrade the former Communist country's nuclear deterrent and equip the armed forces with latest weapons by year 2020.

Sovereign states

The Czech Republic and Poland are sovereign states and have the right to sign treaties with any country they like. Russia should respect that sovereignty and not use military threats against them in order to impose its will.

Tell that to Cuba , Korea , Vietnam , Grenada , Iraq, Afghanistan and numerous other sovereign States that have suffered millions of deaths at the hands of these imbeciles.
As for signing treaties , blackmail , bakhanders and bribes might be more to the point.

So 'Hey Joe , where you going with that gun in your hand' (sic) are you saying that because the US imposes itself on countries it's ok for Russia to do the same? Either it is right or wrong and you should make your mind up. Also, could you provide sources/evidence of the corruption that you refer to?

It is very simple. Nations jumped out of the Central Committee frying pan into the Capitalist fire. Just as Capitalism was about to destroy itself. The Russians can easily reprogram their Nuclear attack software to hit those countries that are putting themselves into the firing line when the mad bitch pit bull terrier presses the nuclear war button.

Those Eastern European countries probably want to be sure of getting their fair share of radioactive fallout so that their population will be genetically changed, and they might end up with a sociable hospitable society.

The economic outlook is now so bleak, that is sound optimistic planning. But it may already be too late for an economic crash to save us from Mass Extinction. It is rather sad that the Capitalist Market Economy did not collapse much sooner. It is now probably too late for even a full scale US/Russia nuclear exchange to stop Earth being purged of all Life by global temperature rise and UV breakthrough..
