Letters from Milwaukee. A new show from Riseup Radio.
Dominic | 18.09.2008 10:11 | Iraq | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements
The first in a series of shows focusing on activism and music from cities around the world. Our first show comes from Milwaukee. A city famous for it’s breweries, cheese and giving the world the Fonz.
As well as the very best music that Milwaukee underground scene has to offer we’ll be speaking to Jeb about doom folk, independent record labels, and how awesome his city is. Eric will join us to talk about all kinds of stuff not least of which is the work the Progressive Students have been doing with Iraqi veterans. Rosemary from the 9to5 National Association of Working Women will talk about the importance of paid leave and the work still needed to be done to ensure equality in the workplace. I’ll also chat to Ursula of the organisation Good Jobs Liveable Neighbourhoods about the efforts to create greater opportunity for those living in inner city of Milwaukee. Finally of Peace Action will give us the run down on the Peace Moratorium and where the anti-war efforts are going to go from here.
