Chalk4Peace has had phenomenal success. All you need to start is chalk...Make your mark and people will join in.
Global Chalk4Peace was started in 2005 by John Aaron in the US. Since then it has spread to many countries around the world including South Africa, Australia and the UK.
The idea is not to be anti war but PRO Peace. It gets children and parents thinking about what message they can write or draw which they would like to make a more peaceful world.
It is such a simple idea and people have loads of fun. It is simple to organise, just get some chalk and start chalking on the pavement – with permission of course! Try your school, youth club, church or even your high street pavement.
London hosts several locations and one successful Global Chalk4Peace has been in Worcester who are in their third year, having built up from 300 drawings in the first year to 550 in the second and big things hoped for this year in what is thought to be the cities biggest participation art event.
Global Chalk4Peace week is from Saturday 13th September to Sunday 21st September. This leads up to International Peace Day on Sunday 21st September every year.
Start one with your friends and you could get some musicians along, facepainters and make a festival of it. Happy Chalking. Make your Mark.
