Future Heathrow publish boycott list

steve | 16.09.2008 11:48 | Climate Chaos | London | Sheffield

If you want to know which companies to boycott in regards of climate change Future Heathrow, the lobby group pushing for a third runway, have just published an interesting list of companies supporting them [1].

With some of these companies it's hard to see how they don't suffer from some serious cognitive dissonance. Npower for instance have a whole section of their corporate responsibility web site dedicated to climate change issues [2]. Entitled "Moving to a low carbon economy" it has several subsections and they say, "it’s clear that we need to reduce our CO2 emissions in the long term". And airport expansion will help will it?

Another signatory is the Global Legal Services company DLA Piper. Last year they organised a whole conference on climate change in Sheffield and even had Al Gore as their star speaker [3]. Interesting that they find no contradiction with their commitment to tackling climate change and their support for Heathrow's third runway!

One signatory that's probably not worth bothering with is Merrill Lynch, the $1tn dollar company who was sold to the Bank of America for $50bn yesterday.

Anyway here's the full list 3rd runway supporters, courtesy of Future Heathrow. If enough people hassle these companies over this it might make them think again before joining such alliances in the future.

Barclays... now there's a surprise!

16.09.2008 12:28

there seems to be some magnetic force that attracts Barclays to anything and everything unethical. As if investing in cruel experiments inside HLS wasn't enough, Barclays also decide to fund global destruction.. well done!

Barclays are an excellent and easy target. Think about it. ALL of us will live near a barclays bank and / or cashpoint...
