The particle collision experiment that knows not where its going or what it will achieve,is this the last opportunity to get your posts in?

So the CERN experiment in Switzerland has been allowed to get underway with no debate or scrutiny outside the scientific community, an experiment that has no specific goal and cannot,in my opinion be justified. The collision of particles is not one that should be taken without proper public debate as the outcome of such an experiment `could` have an effect that would prove more damaging than climate change or more damaging than any nuclear catastrophe that one could imagine. This experimenting with the unknown,or the need to recreate the `BIG BANG`,which is what is claimed to be the goal, which itself is a theory on the beginning of the universe, just goes to show what little regard is given to the populace of this troubled planet. To put such a huge amount of money and resource into a project to prove a theory that could, and there is a possibility, prove the BIG BANG theory, puts climate change into second place. The greatest expectation of the scientists involved is to create or reconstruct the theory of the beginning of the universe, this scientific sinister toy should be halted until a full scrutiny by the public, after being made aware of the possible consequences ,is brought out into the open. Is the planet not in enough trouble. The collision of atoms is possible, the prediction of such actions results are not. The minute atoms used on this trial run will prove nothing, the natural progression would be to increase particle size to get a measurable reaction, then what........................The BIG BANG ?

Get a clue.

"The collision of atoms is possible, the prediction of such actions results are not."

--> The results have been projected. Most all of physics in the last 40 years has been building theories that the LHC will test. Our current understanding of gravity, the formation and future behaviour of the universe depends on the existence of a particle, the "Higgs Boson" that this machine aims to find. You think they'd spend that amount of money if it wasn't properly thought through?

"The minute atoms used on this trial run will prove nothing, the natural progression would be to increase particle size to get a measurable reaction, then what........................The BIG BANG ?"

--> OMG! Like particles bigger than atoms, what would happen if they collided? Give you a clue: go and bang 2 rocks together.

What kind of "public debate" is possible when you have clearly made no attempt to understand the LHC in even general terms?
CERN: "what we are setting out to do is...."
