Turning parking into parks... reappropriating urban space for people
TIN WOLF | 04.09.2008 10:41 | Climate Chaos | Culture | Free Spaces
On the 19th of September, an ordinary parking space will be transformed into a park - one less space for parking a car, one more space for people to relax and enjoy themselves...
In 2005, a group of artists in San Francisco took a parking space, and turned it into a park. Since then, a movement has emerged, focused on "Park(ing) Day", when in cities around the world, parking space is reappropriated for public use.
Park(ing) Day, this year on the 19th of September, is coming to Leeds for the first time. Please join us.
For information and inspiration, visit the main Park(ing) Day website at http://www.parkingday.org
We are meeting outside Leeds City Museum, Cookridge Street at 3.30pm
Please bring things we can make a party out of (anything you like!)
Park(ing) Day Leeds is supported by Carfree UK and TINWOLF (Transition Inner North West of Leeds Forum, part of Transition City Leeds)
