Senior Nepali Maoist leader to address London public meeting

Kumar Sarkar | 01.09.2008 11:05 | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements | London

C P Gajurel, head of the International Department of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) will be speaking about recent developments and the current situation in Nepal in central London on Tuesday 16 September. The meeting has been organised by the Britain-South Asia Solidarity Forum.

Nepal is at a historic turning point following a ten-year guerilla struggle, the restoration of democratic rights, a landslide victory by the CPN(M) in the April elections, and the decision to abolish the feudal monarchy.

The new Nepali government led by the CPN(M) is determined to develop the economy and improve conditions and living standards for the entire population in one of the world’s poorest and most backward countries.

The CPN(M) is calling on progressives and trade unionists everywhere to support these goals, which are an inspiration for many in South Asia and around the world, and to oppose any foreign interference in Nepal. We welcome all those who support these aims to attend the meeting.

08.09.2008 20:06

Unfortunately C P Gajurel of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) will not be speaking at the public meeting in London in Tuesday 16 September, due to other more pressing committments. However an alternative meeting on Nepal may take place and we will keep this post updated with further news.
