Anti-Trident circus skills demo outside Rolls Royce in Derby

Anti-Trident | 23.08.2008 11:17 | Anti-militarism

This is a peace campaigning, juggling, clowning, stilt-walking, and music playing invitation.

Come and have fun and say no to Trident’s replacement!

On 22nd September there will be a demonstration outside the Rolls Royce factory on Raynesway in Derby. It will run from 11am-2pm, and we hope people will bring circus skills, musical instruments, brightly coloured windmills and friends. Please spread the word and come in huge, colourful crowds.

The factory makes the fuel rods for the nuclear reactors which power Trident – Britain’s illegal nuclear weapons system. Because the threat or use of nuclear weapons is illegal under British and international law, we believe the work carried out at this factory (aiding and abetting preparations for war crimes) is also illegal under both British and international law. We are asking Rolls Royce to tell the government they will not provide the engines for Trident’s replacement. This would encourage the government to rethink their decision to replace Trident instead of breaching their commitments under the Non Proliferation Treaty.

Leicester ARROW and Stafford Sowsiders are having monthly demonstrations at the factory, but with this one we hope to show the work force that although we believe they should refuse to carry out this work, we still feel friendly towards them as human beings – hence a demo which they will enjoy seeing as they pass by. Of course it makes it great fun for us as well!

People will hopefully be coming from various places including Stafford, Leicester, East Anglia, Nottingham and London, so transport can be coordinated.
