Meeting report from tuesdays opening meeting for

LONDON , SATURDAY 6 DECEMBER MARCH, "VERY CRITICAL MASS" CYCLIST ACTIONS ETC
to coincide with the preparatory UN meeting for the Copenhagen "WHAT NEXT AFTER "KYOTO" RUNS OUT" big, globally crucial "once-in-ten-years" ( but-we-mightnt-get-a-next-ten-years ) time when the worlds signatories to Kyoto prepare the documents etc for Copenhagen itself.
( after the USAs election, post-campaign but prior to the actual inauguration, is also when diplomats etc "reset their clocks/ mental images of the world " . . . when a heck of a lot of people, imagination, etc on the streets could have a seriously useful effect . . . hence worth thinking about doing a little bit at the moment to put a mention of it into that mailout, onto the website calendar, putting it onto the Womens Institute meetings agenda - or yours !

Good meeting, the first of the "early days" get-togethers, the demo-action-groups are very much open to ideas, additional groups, ideas, people, etc ( at present (post-meeting) youth, cyclists, outreach, with assorted contacts, "go-groups" (regional / specialist etc) to form ( hint, hint !!!! )

After the marches to compliment the climate camp at Kingsnorth, involvement with Heathrow, etc, sub-themes are coal, airports - but also the self-defeating effects of deforestation-for-biofuel. . . . briefing sheets out in weeks, with a good straightforward background to quite HOW crucial that meeting is - but also QUITE how much we need to SERIOUSLY step up our game, as a "sentient" species, world, etc if we are going to avert the terminal global climate turbulence disaster we are aimed at.
( the new Mcguire "Seven Years" book - reviewed - favourably - in the opening page editorial (!) of the current issue of "Green Events" sums up the actual situation - but for a one paragraph "digest" you could check out that editorial itself - www.greenevents.co.uk )

"Speakers" bit already looks more interesting . . . it seems quite possible that the Libdems leadership is up for speaking at the march - of course, with more radical speakers,
perhaps also a variety of informational entertainment ( i just made that phrase up - sounds good - but we are totally against the USUAL idea of "bore-you-stupid" lengthy re-statements-of-what-we-all-knew-thats-why-we-came speeches,)
but also scientists, ("establishment" experts agree with what we are trying to get across, these days (except for that tiny minority that wittingly or unwittingly seem in the pockets of certain vested interests with fast-flowing gravy-trains but attitudes that remind you of some Flat-Earthist Inquisition ) ( we have three key objections to reality .... errm, four.... etc )
etc. probably a juggler
stage magic ????
. . . look, its early days yet - get in touch!
www.campaigncc.org
see you!

Climate change is NOT caused by human activity!

Climate change is not caused by human activity. That theory has been debunked several times now. 31,000 scientists have signed a petition stating that human activity is not causing climate change. A Channel 4 documentary called "The Great Global Warming Swindle" also debunks the theory.

dates. . . . getting with it. . . . doing things

REMEMBER this is when l i t t l e things have a "multiplier" effect !! ! ! . . . .
membership magazines, seasonal mailouts, etc - a brief mention in calendars (with asterisks !!!!), etc - check with the office for latest, or see the website . . . .
23 september, 6.30/7pm, meeting downstairs (in the bookshop!) - drinks after, etc
( 1 minute from Kings Cross is SO EASY TO GET TO . . . . 5 cally road, of course)
4 october, saturday, after the AGM of the main campaign - london somewhere, venue sorting
( 6/11 is one of those big Euston (Friends House) meetings with experts etcetera - also to publicise, but look out for more of the cyclist/ youth / local / etc / etc "action group" brief, social, useful get-togethers coming up quite soon . . . .)

**** its a good time to get a "regional" "demo-go-group" together - if you are up for it, get in touch with the office to see if theres other long-term cccampaign types doing things yet - but if there are, dont let that stop you - the more the merrier - different people often reach entirely different sets of people
(a short-term "demo-push" commitment is often a lot easier to take on if you havent done a lot of "campaigning" in the past . . . . often quite a lot of fun too . . . . the fact that it IS as serious as it all is shouldnt stop us from getting a few mutual grins out of it . . . .(good thing too!)
A COACH / TRAVEL TO THE DEMO from your town phone number - publicised in good time - (widely) - fast - takes a lot of the effort out of it . . . .
( in some places there is a F>O>E group that might take this up, or a local greenpeace-type group or centre, but a lot of the time it IS worth getting together a couple of friends for a one-off "demo-agit-prop" group ( invent your own name!) !!! Some places actually do have "climate campaign" groups . . . . see how your local area is, see what you think after doing the "push" for this demo ( horses for courses - different places, etc ) - but if you prefer to have the "title" of "local rep of the group/campaign ( sometimes useful for a "press releases " etc, ) then get in touch with a bloke called Peter Robinson (phone number from the office) - whose chair of ccc, but, more crucially, up for more of "that sort of thing", as Father Ted almost put it, so could probably do a bit of "local group setting-up agony aunt" type phone support . . . .)
( thats dropped HIM in it. This is often how it works . . . . volunteer a friend, today !!!!)
good luck all !
(yes, its worth it - see intro again !) - cheers!
