Liverpool's First Food Not Bombs

Pinkolady | 18.08.2008 15:01 | Social Struggles | Liverpool

Liverpool's social centre, Next To Nowhere, hosted the city's first Food Not Bombs event today.

Members of the centre were given an unexpected donation of food, which would otherwise have been wasted. They used it make a vast pot of vegan soup, which they gave away free. A member of the collective "advertised" the event simply by standing in the street telling passers-by there was free soup available, and it was especially appreciated by the local homeless people who dropped in. Since the event was loosely planned, and we had no literature about Food Not Bombs, one or two of them thought we are a religious organisation! We had to explain that the social centre is a political space.

The centre members want to repeat the event, if they can get more donations of food. If anybody can offer donations, please leave a message on 0151 703 6806. If you want to know when the next Food Not Bombs event is, check our website, www.liverpoolsocialcentre.org, and click on 'calendar'.
