On Tuesday people approaching the Climate Camp successfully challenged the Police who were stopping and searching people. They refused to be searched saying it was unlawful and when they proceeded the Police backed down. On Wednesday it was noted that the Police were searching people leaving the camp. So a load of people left at once to again challenge the legality of searching….
When confronted by around 50 people who were refusing to be searched but demanding to be allowed to proceed; the cops (who were from four different forces) seemed pretty unsure of what to do. A brief scuffle saw one sixty year old man arrested. The other people then demanded to be allowed to proceed more forcefully and the Police relented without a fight. Exactly what they will say in court if they bother charging the man they nicked remains to be seen…
