Eviction Of Coal Mine Protest Site (Bodge House) - pictures

notts indymedia | 07.08.2008 20:42 | Climate Camp 2008 | Climate Chaos | Ecology | Sheffield

Here are some pictures of the eviction of the Bodge House squat, on the proposed site of an open cast coal mine in Shipley, Derbyshire.

Around 7.45am about 60 police and 50 bailliffs arrived at the house. Throughout the day the police have been trying to get through the barricades and defences. Local people and media have been at the scene. So far 3 people have been removed from lockons and a cargo net outside the house and have been arrested. 7 people are still inside and are heavily barricaded in, included being hidden in tunnels under the house. The bailiffs have put up security fences and although they have managed to enter part of the building, the eviction attempt has been stopped for today. It is estimated the eviction will take at least another couple of days.

Hi

Is anyone able to update on what's happening with the eviction, arrests, charges etc.? Ta.

As for blah, the timing of the eviction is obviously linked to climate camp, but there appear to have been plenty of people on site yesterday.

I'd just like to express my feeling that all those who occupied and resisted eviction at Bodge House are heroes. I am a little ashamed at neglecting a local site that was doing a good thing and going off to scene it at climate camp.

If the climate movement is to make progress we need to rethink strategy. If there was to be another Camp for Climate Action perhaps it should be a site occupation.
