Single issue campaigns like these fail to change the popular view of animals because they perpetuate speciesism by implying that certain forms of exploitation are worse than others, would foie gras would be more acceptable if forced feeding was not being used?

Typically, it fails to address the interest animals have in not being used instrumentally as a means to our ends.

I've just arrived back from Perigord in France which is the main centre of production for fois gras in the country. All the resturants seemed to offer it on their menus (along with confit de canard). It was absolutely delicious.

Seriously though, how much embarrassment do they want to put up with before they follow in the path of so any others and stop supporting this barbaric practice...?!

I can't remember what the disease is called but it affects the liver, there is also a link between foie gras and Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, type II diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and Alzheimer’s. ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I think foie gras would indeed be more acceptable if force-feeding was not used. For those of us who are not vegetarians/vegans, should we have other objections?

On another note, a concern here is that Brindley Place - and many other similar locations - are no longer public spaces. It should be worrying for activists and the politically aware that when free speech can be banished to places it can't be heard, it no longer makes a difference. I suggest that activists in this case do "burst" demos of (say) 15 minutes each, then disperse for a lemonade in disorganised groups, with an agreement to come back later.

Bigger numbers also make a difference of course. Stunts are handy too - in the warmer months, if some of you (chaps) are game - wear some Bermuda shorts and drench yourself in vege oil - you'll be a pretty slippery set of characters! I believe the protestors with SmashEDO have used this to good effect (and undoubtedly people before them too). If you are after a big impact and don't mind your collar being felt occasionally, paint/oil the pavement before legging it!
