Foie gras restaurant in Brum - Please Help!
Birmingham Animal Rights Collective | 22.07.2008 17:48 | Animal Liberation | Birmingham
After starting a demonstraion outside of Edmunds restaurant on the 21st July against their sale of foie gras we were kindly escorted off the premises by these lovely cheerful characters...
Unfortunatley Edumunds restaurant is on private property which is making it very difficult to campaign against their restaurant. We need as much support as possible and it would be very benificial to us if you could write Edmunds restaurant a letter of complaint explaining the process of foie gras production.
ASK THEM TO REMOVE IT FROM THEIR MENU AND CUT THEIR TIES WITH THIS FORM OF ANIMAL ABUSE!
Please write or make telephone calls to:

I put the request on my weblog http://animals-in-the-news.blogspot.com, so hopefully some people in the Netherlands will also write a letter to the restaurant.
This week by the way a Dutch member of Parliament, Ger Koopmans of the christian democrates, told the media that he wants to reintroduce foie gras on the menue of the Parliament. He visisted a farm where foie gras is being made and according to this member of Parliament foie gras is being made in a proper way!!! An article on this topic can be read also on the weblog http://animals-in-the-news.blogspot.com. This is just a part from that article:
'Koopmans recently visited three farms in France. "I know now that foie gras is produced in a responsible manner. It is not really more brutal than our livestock and certainly not more than all the people who are at home and let their dog become too fat ', says Koopmans."
How can you get in contact with Koopmans:

Typically, it fails to address the interest animals have in not being used instrumentally as a means to our ends.

Seriously though, how much embarrassment do they want to put up with before they follow in the path of so any others and stop supporting this barbaric practice...?!
Nice work, keep it up!

On another note, a concern here is that Brindley Place - and many other similar locations - are no longer public spaces. It should be worrying for activists and the politically aware that when free speech can be banished to places it can't be heard, it no longer makes a difference. I suggest that activists in this case do "burst" demos of (say) 15 minutes each, then disperse for a lemonade in disorganised groups, with an agreement to come back later.
Bigger numbers also make a difference of course. Stunts are handy too - in the warmer months, if some of you (chaps) are game - wear some Bermuda shorts and drench yourself in vege oil - you'll be a pretty slippery set of characters! I believe the protestors with SmashEDO have used this to good effect (and undoubtedly people before them too). If you are after a big impact and don't mind your collar being felt occasionally, paint/oil the pavement before legging it!

So it would make you feel better about murdering animals if they weren't expolited quite so much? I suppose you will tell me "free range" is cruelty free next.
Have great day.
