Paraguay: More Repression as the Repressors Go Free

Buenos Aires: July 3rd, 2008

Human rights organizations announce their solidarity with Dr. Almada during his political persecution. We are also concerned by the trial for defamation, libel, and slander, on charges brought by the genocidaire Juan Manuel Morales.
Morales’ activity as a government mole in resistance organizations during the military dictatorship’s genocide is well established. Our organizations are supporters of the three witnesses that saw him in the clandestine detention centers under Stroessner. Now, the current regime has awarded him with the presidency of the Superior Electoral Court. We demand that the responsible authorities try him and punish all of the guilty. Impunity and repression continue in our country. The repressors are still free.
As victims and survivors of the dictatorship, we call on all human rights organizations to express their solidarity with Dr. Almada’s just and necessary struggle against impunity.

Everyone for the year 2008 without political prisoners, state terrorism, forced disappearances, exiles, and abusive antiterrorist laws.
