Two protesters against immigration controls were found not guilty of obstruction in Market Street Magistrates Court, Newcastle on Tuesday after they showed their solidarity to a refugee family on the 10th of October last year.

PO Ian McCarthy said that the 2 protesters had been in "the apex of the door" of the immigration cell van while he had been dealing with another protester, who plead guilty to obstruction and section 5 of the public order act. All other witnesses agreed that the 2 had been further away.
One of the prosecutors questions was: "What would an English; what would an ordinary passer by think?"
The lead magistrate said that the police evidence was contradictory but that this was not a criticism of the police.
