Fresh from a spell in a government detention centre, the asylum seeker came close to being sent back to Togo this week despite hopes of a judicial review of his case.

This was written a couple of weeks back. Tomorrow Mathias Edoh will be detained, facing imminent deportation back to the one party rule of Togo, where he is almost certainly in danger of punishment because of his political views.

Mathias has produced radio shows of African music, made films and undertaken web design projects for a variety of clients in and around Ipswich. His detainment appears an arbitrary exercise in filling centres with asylum seekers regardless of their contributions to where they are living.
