Kevin Watmough linked to Searchlight - The plot thickens

Anti-fascist observer | 09.07.2008 09:29 | Anti-racism

BPP leader Kevin Watmough has been linked to 'Searchlight'.

 http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/07/403048.html?c=on#comments

Late last night, a poster ambiguously calling themselves ‘Independent’, put up what appeared to be a letter from British People’s Party leader and ‘Redwatch’ co-conspirator, Kevin Watmough to Gerry Gable of ‘Searchlight’. The post is in the form of a jpeg, showing the re-constructed letter, which is rather soiled and appears to have been ripped up. In the letter ‘Kev’ thanks ‘Gerry’ for a cheque, refers to a change in BPP electoral policy, and also refers to various photographs, etc supposedly supplied with the letter. The two identifying features are the address and a signature.

Comments beneath the post suppose that the letter may originally have been taken from a bin, it certainly looks soiled, and there appears to have been an attempt to destroy it’s content prior to reconstruction. There may however be a number of ways this letter has entered the public domain, and so far ‘Independent’ has not told us anything further.

There have long been suspicions in both anti-fascist circles and neo-nazi circles that Kevin Watmough is a state agent of some sort (an informer, paid or otherwise) and a ‘Searchlight’ collaborator. This letter, if it is genuine, would certainly be proof of the latter.

‘Concerned of gipton’, an established Indymedia poster and regular commentator on anti-fascist affairs within West Yorkshire, alludes to a ‘tradition’ among sections of the far-right in Leeds of working for their supposed opposition. Kevin Watmough would appear to be very much part of that tradition, though it encompasses financial gain and a desire to save one’s own skin rather than any conversion.

Beneath this is a post from ‘Night Owl’, a monicker used by Arthur Bentley of Bradford (BNP), an old adversary of Watmough’s. ‘Night Owl’ says: “This only confirms what many in Nationalist circles have known for years.”

Another poster asks for verification on the signature. That is certainly Kevin Watmough’s signature, or a very good forgery, anyone who has seen it would know that, so his ‘comrades’ may be less sceptical about the letter’s authenticity than some anti-fascists. The address is also genuine, and would be known to very few people (Watmough however has recently moved in with his current girlfriend, Kate O’Dermody, who is briefly mentioned in the letter.)

The roving eye of Larry O’Hara, a big gun in these circles, and editor of ‘Notes From The Borderland’ it seems never sleeps. Perhaps surprisingly, Larry wades in at an early stage with some comments on the Watmough-Searchlight letter. While he expresses some doubts about the authenticity of the letter, he says that if genuine it would support the ‘gut feeling’ he (and many others) have always had about Watmough. Larry makes the point that the signature comprises only 3 letters, but that is how Watmough signs his name. Also that it appears to have been ripped up in a “contrived” fashion, but most people tear up letters in much the same way, and the address is not “intact” it has clearly been ripped across prior to the letter being reconstructed (so for that matter has the signature.)

Perhaps the most interesting thing about this letter, is the reference to the change in BPP electoral policy. Certainly there has been a recent and complete u-turn by the BPP in this respect. Previously they have said that they would not stand against the BNP or any other ‘nationalist’ candidate. Now, they have completely reversed that, and are planning to stand candidates in areas where the far-Right vote will certainly be split. This letter, if it is genuine, provides the answer as to why the BPP should have taken such a sudden, and in many ways illogical, decision.

It is certainly the case that Kevin Watmough has led a charmed life with the security services, escaping arrest time and time again while those around him are arrested and imprisoned. Furthermore, it is the considered opinion of many seasoned anti-fascists that Watmough is, as Mr O’Hara puts it, “dodgy”. We may not yet know enough about this letter to pronounce one way or another, with certainty, on its authenticity (perhaps ‘Independent’ will be more forthcoming), but if it is it will finally nail that suspicion once and for all.

Looks like a fabrication

Can't believe this is real, for starters where is the evidence that Kevin Watmough is capable of writing such a professional letter, just look at "his" signature...

Read the content, this doesn't ring true at all, I'm not a fan of Gerry Gable but I can't believe he would be writing cheque's to Kevin Watmough -- this is absurd.

Unless this can be proven as being genuine I think it should be hidden as inaccurate since it is probably fabricated disinformation.

News or propaganda?

Contrived?

I think its rubbish to say this letter has been stuck back together in a contrived manner - it's obvious that whoever salvaged it just didn't bother stuicking back the bits which didn't have any writing on. If it did come out of a bin it was probably covered in crap anyway. The only thing I can see missing is the date. The blank bits of paper would hardly be worth wading through a bin for. It looks like it has been folded up and then torn up judging from the crease lines. If it did come from a bin though I wonder what else this person got.

Fake

09.07.2008 12:50

This is clearly fascist trolling/propaganda, a weak attempt to muddy the name of Searchlight (as if this would be necessary anyway).

a.) This would probably have been emailed, not sent by letter.

b.) The sender's post code is incorrect, how would anyone mis-spell their own post code? It should be LS5 not LR5. S and R are not near each other on the keyboard so this is unlikely to be a typing mistake.

c.) Why would you put your own address on such a compromising letter?

d.) Conveniently the piece of paper where the receiver's address should be is missing, information whoever fabricated this does not have perhaps?

Fake?

One small point about the letter is the water damage that ends abruptley i line with the horizontal piece of tape, and below the centre a reflection from a part with no tape. Which may indicate that the water was added after the letter was taped back together, if so would indicate a rather poor attempt a making the letter appear to be rescued from the bin.

Water stains ? I think not

09.07.2008 16:47

I don't think they are water marks, definatley recognise a glue stain when I see one, so it does fit whatmoughs M.O as a chronic glue sniffer, as to the post code error, its interesting how if its not correct why would someone [the forger] make such an obvious mistake when it would be picked up straight away ,if its an elaborate hoax who is it really designed to hurt and from which side , is it a double red herring by whatmough himself designed to embarrass Searchlight ? or possibly designed to throw off the scent from his ongoing betrayal, disgaced fellow traveller Sid Williams has been making noises ,as has the griffin supporting scumbags over on the C.U.N.T.S blog spot who have thrown there lot in with Sid Williams [ ex bpp organiser and drunken bottle job], Also interesting how Mr O'hara jumped in with his tuppence worth so early on..very very interesting , We know Kevin monitors indymedia so can we have some input from the man himself ? regards C.O.G

mirrors and smokescreens

09.07.2008 19:46

much has been made about the 'obvious' forgery techniques of this letter. but what about the content? if old gluebag himself ain't written this after a session on the old Evo, then who else? its long been known in NS circles that glueboy has been protected in return for info favours and i reckon there's a few disgruntled fellow patriots who'd like a word with him about his loose lips. Could the best way for him to avoid a hiding be to put himself in the public gaze? after all evryone knows his treet tactics involve hiding behind a load of cops. can't see why anyone else would bother with a 'forgery' then not bother to use the correct postcode. all looks a little sus.

publicity stunt

09.07.2008 19:54

Just seen the BPP s women's blog and discussion of the above seems to be of the protesteth too much kind. the 'woman' is such an egomaniac she just loves owt thats got a whiff of her name to it. and she's meant to be the bpp new electoral hope. just her style, whip up a bit of controversy that then gives her a chance to indulge in some old-fashioned racist crap about Searchlight. if KW isn't in the pay of the state then he's certainly having his strings pulled nearer to home.

Nice Try

09.07.2008 20:06

Surely Kev would send emails to Gerry, or just ring him? Surely Gerry Gable would not throw a letter away, at least not without shredding it first.

Perhaps this is an O'Hara plot to discredit Kev now that he's got Griffin's ear and does not need Kev for gossip/pics?

Strange Setup

09.07.2008 21:15

As a leading nationalist I am often we\ry of getting into arguments and debates on these sites.

We have for a long time been investigating the behaviour of Kate Dermody Kevins girlfriend.

A report will be passed onto to other senior members of the nationalist movement for them to decide themselves. She has cooperated with Searchlies on a recent article about herself a typical Searchlies operation to "big up" they're moles in the organisation.

This is a typical case of the mole stitiching up another comrade to cause dissent in the movement and should be stamped out.

What goes around comes around

The BPP clowns crying on here should've thought about what would happen when one person in charge promotes his friends and girlfriends however unpopular they may be. Britain is going down the drain and between the reds and grasses and shitstirrers in the BPP we're all doomed.

Just wondering...

Amusing to see the trolls & plant-pots crawling out of the undergrowth thick and fast (after all, a touch of rain encourages slugs does it not?).

I have only one question: can anyone explain exactly why the original post Watmough and Searchlight, plus comments, was removed? I ask because the letter clearly isn't a problem, as it has been reproduced above?
