Fairford Air Tatoo- Climate Catastrophy.

Kevin Lister | 08.07.2008 08:55 | Climate Chaos | Globalisation | Terror War

It is that time of year agin, when Fairford gets ready for a fossil fuel burning jamborie. The governement tells us to pump up our tyres and cut food waste, but none of this applies to the Fairford Air Tatoo. Get your paint brushes out and paint out their signs with warnings of global climate catastrophy. See if the Airshow management can stop us. They are crapping themselves about protesters turning up.

Within the past month , James Hanson (NASA's chief climate change scientist) has warned that "unless we can cut our CO2 emissions in the atmosphere to 350 ppm within the next couple of years we are toast." To put it in context, we are currently at 450 ppm CO2 equivalent.

Within the last month it has been reported there is a 50% chance of being able to sail to the North Pole this summer. If this happens we will hit one of our key climatic tipping points.

Within the past month an amendment has been tabled to increase the CO2 cut from 60% to 80% in the climate change bill. If passed, it will result in an unprecedented change to our society.

The United Nations Human Development report has said ignoring climate change is a crime against humanity, and on a par with the atrocities of the Second World War.

The CIA has said climate change is our biggest threat.

So, our reaction to this is to stamp the largest possible carbon foot print on the ground by having an airshow which will fly planes in from all over the world to make the business of dropping bombs appear more family friendly than the business of climate change.

We offer you a challenge. We will paint out as many of your signs as we can before the weekend to raise awareness of the environmental damage you will be causing. You try and stop us.

Livestock Sector v Transportation Sector

08.07.2008 10:18

"The livestock sector is a major stressor on many ecosystems and on the planet as a whole. Globally it is one of the largest sources of greenhouse gases…. It currently amounts to about 18 percent of the global warming effect — an even larger contribution than the transportation sector worldwide." - United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.

The vegetarian/Vegan diet lifestyle, this is a critical issue. This is even more critical than our power plants, our industries, the energy efficiency of our homes and appliances, or even transportation.

“Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances of survival for life on earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet.” - Albert Einstein. Vegetarian diet is good enough for Hilary Benn, Secretary Of State For The Environment, even better, why not adopt a Vegan diet and lifestyle?

Transport, diet, energy, lifestyle...change your life!!

I agree, veganism is quite possibly the most effective step any of us can take. Vegan all the way! :)

But it`s criminally insane for events like this to be taking place when we know the devastation that planes have on the planet. We need to look at every part of our life, and make the changes necessary to protect our earth for future generations.

I`m glad the organisers of this event are crapping themselves. Maybe if enough people get active, they`ll call it off!!

"vegan"

Vegetarian yes but vegan i wouldn't recommend, it didn't worked for me, at start i felt really great but after 2 years it started to get worse so i stepped back on vegetarian diet... Vegan diet is possible but you need a huge amount of knowledge on "nutrition's" and a whole pile of money (or land) to eat "right" food....

Priorities, priorities...

I guess criminal damage saves worrying about the real issues. Next stop - boycott the Isle of Wight Regatta, because it has as much relevance to shipping emissions (which are far higher than aviation) than protesting an air show because of perceived effects of commercial flight.
