Fur campaign kicks off in Portsmouth

SARC | 06.07.2008 22:05 | Animal Liberation | Ecology | South Coast

On Saturday 5th July SARC kicked off their campaign against Nauticalia in Portsmouth with a bright and vibrant demonstration against the company's sale of toys made from REAL fur.

We arrived just after Midday and set up a stall to inform passers by just what sort of sick shop was operating in Portsmouth's tourist centre.

Even the SARC bunny was out to let people know that Nauticalia were one of the few shops in the UK which would still sell toy cats made from real rabbit fur. Everyone who passed by was shocked that fur was still sold in Portsmouth and a few even thought fur was illegal in the UK.

The fur, which comes from China, represents horrific animal cruelty. China has no animal welfare standards and so animal rights are routinely abused meaning the rabbits suffer horrific pain and suffering in order to make nothing more than a cheap souvenir.

With the campaign kicked off in a way truly typical of SARC, we will be back time and again until Nauticalia stops exploiting animals and stops selling fur.
