A team of 20 refugee activist lead by belgian superhero Mega Mindy (known from kids tv in belgium) blocked the entrance to the deportation centre of Merksplas.
With this action they want to protest against the inhumane imprisonment of refugees, even children, who did nothing wrong but fleeing misery.
At 7 o'clock in the morning, Mega Mindy scaled the roof of the deportation centre, while the rest of her Mega Blockade team chained themselves to the two main gates, thus effectivly blocking all vehicles to and from the centre. during 8 hours the activist blocked the inhuman deportation machine and drew attention to these cruel prisons and deportations.
Police was present after a couple of hours but did not interfere
the detainees of the centre however responded heavy: a small uproar in the centre started as refugees heard the activist, saw Mega Mindy on the rooftop, and noticed the nervous guards. Refugees tried communicating with Mega Mindy by throwing litlle notes with details on the conditions in the centre, or wrote notes with shaving cream on the windows. For at least an hour prisoners were bashing the bars with chairs, tables, cups, everything they could find. for hours refugees were communicating trough the bars by shouting slogans and making short statements.
the refugees could communicate that a hunger strike was taking place already ten days, without any response from the centre management or the outside.
Mindy's mega blockade team is convinced that this action effectivly halted deportations from Merksplas for 8 hours, drew massive media attention to a theme to often ignored by main stream media, and was a massive support to the struggle of refugees emprisoned in the centre.
Mega Mindy will continue the struggle against deportation centres, in Merksplas, Belgium, Europe and the world
No borders , no nations, stop deportations!!
