G4S Targeted

G4S | 18.06.2008 16:11 | Anti-racism | Migration | Social Struggles

Late on Sunday 15th June, G4S (Group 4 Security) depot in Portland Square, Bristol, was attacked by dedicated individuals. 3 vehicles were beaten up with sledgehammers in revenge for the beatings G4S give out to innocent migrants every day, in the course of their 'business'

G4S pride themselves on doing evil cheaply and efficiently, just like fascist lackys in other times and places. Anything that can be done to cost them money and time is effective and worth the effort

This beating goes out as a warning to all those who abuse power, and as an incentive to people who fight whatever side of the fence they are caught on

Monday G4S/Met run
Monday G4S/Met run

Chippis stop? walworth Rd
Chippis stop? walworth Rd

Council tax goes to paying for the local police forces who are, seemingly there to assist G4S while others suffer. What is the deal between the law and G4S? anyone? I'm not niave enough to believe the law is actually 'accountable to the public'
Pic one is Camberwell SE London & two is Walworth Rd. Southwark council are doing all they can to stop pavement cycling - got to make sure G4S have somewhere to park and block traffic signals

Well done, not a moment too soon either!

G4S is what policing will look like in the coming years, it needs to be confronted and attacked every step of the way. From private prisons, private armies and now private police, the agenda of the free market has never been so entwined with the agenda of the state and government.

Raise their profile, rase them to the ground, keep it up!

They're not trying to do evil specifically - just make money

I agree that the privatisation of the police power is a genuine and realistic worry - one only need to see the number of "custodial services" vehicles on the road to demonstrate that there is a real corporate benefit to increased incarceration and anti-asylum sentiment. Neoliberal attacks on the poor in general also serve (intentionally or otherwise) this private sector segment by promoting the root causes of crime (disenfranchisement, broken communities, boredom and a sense of helplessness).

However I am not convinced that G4S "pride themselves on doing evil" - the problem is that they don't think too hard about what they are doing, and they are of course beholden to their shareholders (as Joel Bakan says in his book on "The Corporation", a corporation that stops for moral reflection will kick its CEO out immediately). The problem is the system and, of course, the lazy support the system receives (drivers will say "I need this job to support my family"). That having been said, targetting the very symbols of a company that refuses to consider the social ramifications of its work may be an effective component of challenging the status quo.

We must remember though that the only way we are going to win this fight is by educating people about the effect that "profiteering from prisons" has on society generally. To that end, how's about your campaign group also affix some printed posters to all sides of targetted vans explaining your actions? This will set up the right questions in the minds of workers, and in the minds of police called to incidents, about what is wrong with the situation. They may well ignore this information, of course, but at least it might help them start on their necessary mindset shift.

you think this kind of thing is clever, G4S are actually an equal oppertunities employer and are more than fair to the staff, I myself am a female indian worker who is at the bottom of the G4S food chain, I get treated like very very well and so does every other person i have spoke to who works for G4S, the vehicles damaged in the attack are absolutley nothing to do with the complete seperate part of the company that you have pictured here, maybe you idiots should try getting your facts right before attacking peoples vehicle, what makes it worse is that only 2 of the vehicles were company vehile the 3rd was a private vehicle and nothing to do with G4S so now this person has to pull money from there own pocket because of you absolute brainless idiots.....Bravo your intelligenece is astounding.anyone who has a problem with G4s valuables in transit should deal with them not the innocent response services department but not by using a hammer because this is just childish if people have a grudge for being mistreated then you should ask your self why and then go to a lawyer.
