Students today at Bogotá National University, Colombia, demonstrated against planned privatisation and the introduction of tuition fees.
The National University has a tradition of highly politicised student organisations and free education. It also has a policy of not allowing members of the Colombian police force or military from entering the campus.
Today during the demonstration riot police provocatively attempted to enter university to carry out arrests. They were met by approximately 1000 students, who repelled them with a barrage of stones and Molotov cocktails.
The police in turn, replied with watercannon teargas and plastic bullets.
Currently it is unclear how many arrests and injuries have occurred.
