for a better, and possible new world




14 years have passed in which the Zapatistas have been answering the question, from one day to the next, “Can we live and build rebellion in times of permanent war, without such rebellion being transformed into terror and war?” During all this time they have created their answer in their practice, advancing the construction of their autonomy in Chiapas, building the alternative, launching their initiatives of “another way of doing politics” in Mexico and the world. And what has made this enduring reality possible, is without doubt the daily DIGNITY and RESISTANCE together with shared SOLIDARITY. The tremendous force of this dignity, resistance and solidarity has achieved the construction of LIFE instead of death and peaceful REBELLION instead of war, which the alliance of political and economic powers in Mexico have always tried to impose. And this same force of Zapatismo and solidarity has made possible the construction of the HOPE of an alternative in the methods and the words of the Planet Earth´s movements of resistance, that also suffer from the barbarity of capitalism and its neoliberal model. But the underlying threats and the savagery still continue, and so - today, like yesterday - it is our turn to share SOLIDARITY once again, as a shared space and path, defending the REBEL DIGNITY that lives and resists in the mountains of southeastern Mexico, whilst nourishing our own struggles, hopes, ways and practices so that – together – we can achieve a new Other world, which is better and is possible.




We are facing an extremely dangerous scenario in Mexico. The Mexican government, its lies about democracy and respect for human rights unmasked, chose the path of force and brutal repression in the face of each dissident act, protest and social resistence in the country. The hostile actions taken against Zapatista communities have not stopped in the past 14 years, but in recent times the situation has become increasingly much more than just alarming. It consists of constant suffocating criminal persecution against the communities, with all different kinds of police, judicial, miltary and paramilitary activities, with complete impunity; aggressions, evictions, disappearances, assasinations, imprisonment, attacks on autonomous co-operatives, censorship (cerco informativo), multiple provocations with the objective of inciting conflicts between indigenous people...




“We who have made war can recognise the ways in which it is prepared and brought about. The signs of war on the horizon are clear. War, like fear, also has a smell. And now, you are beginning to breathe in its foetid odour in our lands”, warned Subcomandante Marcos in December 2007.




Avoiding the disaster and not allowing the Mexican government to impose its death plans, is also in our hands. We must act NOW! Solidarity is our weapon. We must renew its force and imagination. We must inform the Zapatistas themselves, society, the world and the governments that Zapatismo continues being inspiration, hope, life and SOLIDARITY. Make known and demonstrate that THE ZAPATISTAS ARE NOT ALONE. That we ourselves are not alone, we are not alone. For this reason, and according to the what was agreed in the European Encuentro in the Defense and Struggle of the Zapatista People and the Other Campaign in Mexico, celebrated in Athens the 9th to the 11th of May, we make a call out to anticapitalist international civil society from below and to the left, for everyone to go forward together, the European Campaign of Solidarity for Zapatista Autonomy and against the War in Chiapas”, uniting many initiatives to be carried out via the same campaign and with this, enabling and participating in the "CARAVAN in SUPPORT of ZAPATISTA AUTONOMY and the Mexican OTHER CAMPAIGN" that will start its journey the coming 27th July in Mexico City (DF) with the possibilty of joining up on 3rd August at a point on the way which is still to be determined, finishing on the 12th August in Zapatista territory.
