BBC Disinformation Alert No. 22476

KC | 06.06.2008 13:16 | Analysis | Social Struggles

BBC2's Working Lunch Friday, 6/6/08 implements 'Gatekeeper' strategy to disorientate viewers over rising oil prices.

Set up:
Anchorman, 'Expert' in studio, further' Expert' video link.

Anchorman asks why prices are rising, Studio 'Expert' informs- 3 reasons- Supply, Demand and an unnamed 'controversial' one.

Studio 'Expert' informes, Supply because oil is running out (?) and is in dodgy antiwestern countries (?)- no counter argument! And Demand because China/India growing economies and subsidised oil- but no counter argument.

Then the big one- the 'controvertial' (meaning naughty, not to be spoken of, not to be taken seriously)- Studio 'Expert' says the S word- Speculators- but can't explain it- over to the video 'Expert'- he's in a trading office- suites and all- he must know. This 'Expert' gives a very obscure/evasive contribution without examples or specifics- result back to the studio- for clarification/debate- no, show over.

Mission accomplished by BBC evasion doctors- covered the material but without any real information forthcoming.

The Gatekeeper Strikes Again!
