Work has been continuing at EcoWorks with the Straw Bale building in Nottingham. The building, now being fully enclosed [short of the main doors], and all window frames fitted, this last weekend saw the lime rendering of the walls.
Work has been continuing at EcoWorks with the Straw Bale building in Nottingham. The building, now being fully enclosed [short of the main doors], and all window frames fitted, this last weekend saw the lime rendering of the walls.
Mixing and applying Lime Render to the outside of the building, involved preparing the straw, making up lime/sand mix, treading it, and applying it to the building. Overalls, wellies and gloves being the dress code. It was oooh so messy, but with a dedicated band, we managed to get the whole building covered with a first coat. This will now dry over the coming month, and subsequent applications of increasing thickness of mix, will then be applied.
So, dear readers, if you have enjoyed watching the progress of this building being constructed ..... how about getting out from behind your computer screen, and get up to EcoWorks in the new year, and volunteer your services.
All could have been done a lot earlier, if a bunch of 'already-skilled' people had just got on with it. But, it was generally descided that by involving many volunteers, folks might go away, and having been inspired by the project, and with a bit of hands-on experience ....... have ideas and help others think about what they could do with other sustainable projects in their own areas.
