Indymedia, why I'm calling it a day

Manchester lad | 02.06.2008 10:47 | Indymedia | Sheffield

For months now I have grown increasingly frustrated and upset at the direction Indymedia UK has taken with the newswire. The constant emphasis on events in Israel and Palestine, the numerous stories attempting to link Jews to unrelated world events and the general move away from a UK events based news service to one that places its emphasis on the Middle East.

I think the events in that part of the world are important but I find the daily emphasis on all things Jewish to have crossed the line into clear anti-Semitism. Anti-Semitism within the Left has always been an issue in the same way that racism in the trade union movement once was but I had hoped those days were gone and in the majority of the radical Left by and large it has. Regretfully within Indymedia UK that is not the case and that's why I have decided to call it a day.

Over the past six years Indymedia UK was my primary means of staying informed about events in the movement within Britian and my way of informing people about actions, events, fundraisers and some victories along the way but I will now be looking elsewhere, I have no idea where but it will not be here.

To all those who knew me by my various names I wish you luck, good times and peace. I am sure we will see one another on the streets. To those within Indymedia UK I hope there is still time to turn the boat around and the will to do it. You haven't got long people before you hit the rocks.

All the best
