Italian Crystal nights, first the gypsies...Is this Europe 1938?

Hans Ceustermans | 26.05.2008 09:44 | Globalisation | Migration | Repression

A few nights of raids with baseball bats and molotov cocktails have done the job…
Why didn`t we see the sensational images of burning gypsy camps, terrified and crying children and desperate people in our European press?

Last week we could see on TV once again the burning garbage in Napels.
This can happen only in Italy and that makes us comfortable so that we can joke about it.
But this was not the only burning fire, there was much more going on in Italy but unfortunately we haven’t seen much about it in Europe.
Several big gypsy camps have been destroyed deliberately or went up in flames so that gypsies for sure couldn’t return.

Nightly raids with molotov cocktails and baseball bats have done the job.
The media has been very helpful creating an anti Roma atmosphere already for months(last summer the rape of an Italian women by a Romanian was front-page news for two months!)

Who controls the European media? Who determines what is news and what is not?
Nobody wants to touch the topic of media manipulation, not written press or TV.
On the same moment, there were much more sensational images of burning camps, crying children and desperate people but that images we haven’t seen in Europe .

This is the democratic Europe anno 2008.
The homeless Roma gypsies haven been deported the next day under police protection and a big part has been put out of the country.

Not that there is much to expect from the police protection.
Yesterday, 20 may, razzia’s have been carried out in every gypsy camp of Sardinia .
Intimidation and razzia’s are daily business and it’s obvious who is the national enemy.
For the moment at least…

Where was pope Benedictus that in other cases interferes immediately with internal Italian politics?

More Mussolini...

I was aghast that Irish media did not even pay lip-service to
the issue and ignored a letter to the editor that I had written.

The man is a fantasist, whose policy seems to based in his view
of his own importance which has very little to do with an awareness
of the function of a Statesman who represents a country on the International
Political stage. Idealistically I had presumed that those who seek office
are capable of absorbing and learning about the responsibilites of power.

Instead he seems to focus on Libido, sexiam and overt nasty racist behaviour.
I am at a loss that the Italian people would choose him to represent their international
interests....

but maybe politics are become so globalised that a cardboard cut-out playboy
is what they require??

bbc/guardian/independent/imc covered- I wrote a report on this wire regarding
the pogrom , as did other writers.
