Speak Oxford Demo Report – Thursday 15 May

One law for some, one law for others.

From Speak site-

"Not content with endangering lives by blocking off a busy pavement, putting a pelican crossing out of use and making it difficult for drivers coming out of Mansfield Road to see what traffic is approaching, Oxford University is also blatantly flouting traffic laws while the police stand back and let them get away with it.

Legislation makes it clear that all traffic that is driven on a public highway must have a registration plate clearly displayed. Yet over the last few weeks numerous vehicles have been driven around the new animal torture lab with no registration plates. When this was taken up with Thames Valley Police they claimed that reg plates were not needed in this instance. However, a copy of the legislation gained from another police force shows that the Oxford University construction traffic DOES need registration plates for their vehicles, a part of the legislation that was mysteriously missing from TVP’s copy…

While the builders drove around the site SPEAK supports were on hand to remind them of the terrible suffering any animal that enters that lab will endure, and all because they have built it despite knowing what is going to happen inside it. Ignorance is not an excuse they can use because SPEAK has made it very clear why that new lab is both morally and scientifically wrong. In fact, there is no excuse they can use to defend the making of money from animal suffering.

Luckily there are those who are not guided by greed ora selfish gain and who will fight for the defenceless no matter how long it takes or how hard a slog it is. "
