As part of the campaign against the Missile Defence Shield (Son of Ronald Regan's Star Wars) that the US is developing, leading to a new arms race and a new Cold War, breaking the Non Proliferation Treaty and against the wishes of the majority of people in Europe, Humanist activists in Czech Republic and other European countries are starting hunger strikes and other actions to prevent the Czech installation of an US Radar base.
CZECH HUMANISTS ON 4TH DAY HUNGER STRIKE, PROTESTS ALL OVER EUROPE
Humanist activists Jan Tamas and Jan Bednar have not eaten for four days. They are staying in an office in the center of Prague 24 hours a day , their protest is creating uproar locally and spreading all over Europe.
Jan Neoral, mayor of Trokarec, the town chosen by the US to install the first foreign military base on Czech soil after the Soviet departure, will fast on Saturday in solidarity. Declarations of support have arrived from all over the continent and as far as South America, where Bolivian Senator, Gaston Cornejo who expressed admiration and respect for the Czech examples.
Rebellion against Star Wars is taking place in over 20 European cities. Berlin's Postdamer Platz, the center of Budapest, on the streets of Malaga spreading to Andalusia, all night long in Milan, Trieste's Piazza Cavana, Turin's Via Garibaldi, are hosting protests, information stands and most especially a chain of solidarity fasts culminating in the announcement of new hunger strikes.
International media from Austria to Russia, passing through China are broadcasting the opposition to the US Star Wars.
A continent has awakened to the danger looming in its near future, becoming the theatre of World War III. Giorgio Schultze, European Spokesperson for New Humanism summarizes the clamor, "We ask every Government and the European Parliament to take a clear and decisive position, denying support for the Missile Shield project because it puts the peace and co-existence of our peoples in danger. We strongly object to the establishment of new military bases of foreign powers on European territory or to the expansion of those already existing. We demand the elimination of all nuclear arsenals."
