Queens Hotel - Backing the Greyhound Racing Cruelty

Yorkshire Animal Rights | 29.04.2008 17:25 | Animal Liberation | Sheffield

For the fourth year running, the Queens Hotel in Leeds hosted the National Greyhound Racing Awards - a ceremony where those involved in the industry get accredited for their involvement in an industry exposed time and time again for animal cruelty.

For the fourth year running, the Queens Hotel in Leeds hosted the National Greyhound Racing Awards - a ceremony where those involved in the industry get accredited for their involvement in an industry exposed time and time again for animal cruelty. A noisy and visual demonstration of 40 people was held outside this year's event, exposing those involved for what the animal abuse they participate in.

The next day, a short meeting was held with the general manager of the hotel by two representatives to discuss the issues of greyhound racing; but despite being told the real facts the hotel manager said he would be more than happy to host the event next year if the offer arose; in otherwords was willing to back the animal abuse and stick two fingers up at the 30,000 dogs killed each year. The hotel manager also said he would not be willing to sell foie gras in the Queens, yet is willing to let the group support another form of cruelty!

:: CRUELTY ::
In the greyhound racing industry, dogs are bred for their speed which means that their bones are brittle. A large amount of these which don't make it to the tracks, for the reason of being too slow, are then killed. Those who survive are then kept in isolation in concrete kennels covered in faeces - the reason for being kept alone is because they fight due to stress and lack of stimulations when paired with other dogs. They stay in these kennels most of the time when not being raced. When on the track, the dogs often snap their necks or break paws due to running at such a speed - if this happens they are then killed. Others who don't win the race are also dumped in the street, or join the number of over 30, 000 deaths each year directly linked to the industry.

* TIED TO A BRICK & DROWNED * GASSED * CLUBBED TO DEATH * STARVED * HUNG * SHOT * RUN OVER * - All methods that the greyhound industry have been exposed for using to kill dogs; this is after they have had their ears hacked of to hide any racing tattoos that would link them to a trainer.

:: SAMPLE LETTER ::

"Dear Sir / Madam,
I was disgusted to hear that the Queens Hotel are willing to continue hosting the annual National Greyhound Racing Awards, which they have done so for the past 4 years.

Please stop hosting this cruel ceremony, which gives awards to people who abuse animals.
Yours Sincerely,"
