2nd Beverley Green Fair (PRESS Release:- To All Media for Immediate Release)

Colin Revell | 22.04.2008 22:19

By popular demand, Beverley Green Fair is back! We will be holding our second Green Fair next Sunday 27 April 2008 at Longcroft School, Beverley.

Shan Oakes, one of the Green Fair organisers, said, “We held the first event in May last year and it was such a success that people said ‘you have to do it again’ so we had no choice! The partnership with Longcroft School worked extremely well. This time we’ve chosen an earlier date so that it’s well before school exams.

‘Green’ means ethical, and fair. ‘Green’ is also about sharing and participation. Our aim is to have a day which is fun, and which promotes local, social, cultural and economic diversity, make a showcase of sustainable living, encourage community spirit, and provide information and workshops on alternative life choices.”

All the favourites from last year have been invited, plus a recycling bonanza in the form of a Magnificent Car Boot Sale.

All the favourites from last year have been invited, plus a recycling bonanza in the form of a Magnificent Car Boot Sale.

There will of course be food (including the highly popular French baking of Thierry, and Nigerian dishes served in reusable leaves!) but don’t expect any meat - as going green does mean trying to consume far less meat than is ‘normal’ in our culture (for health, environmental, and animal rights reasons). Ethical drinks will be available at the bar and elsewhere.

The music includes:

12:10 - Katy Furze
13:00 - Val Marshall
14:00 - Beverley Community Choir
15:00 - The Peasants
16:00 - Longcroft Gospel Choir

Buskers are welcome (contact us)
Maypole – organise your own dance/knot

The Workshops include Bagpipe demonstration, Scrapstore for kids, Drumming workshop and Therapy session (Indian head massage and reflexology). A new highlight this year is an exciting 5rhythms dance workshop in the gym from 2.30 to 4.30 pm.

What are the 5Rhythms? The 5Rhythms comprise a simple movement practice designed to release the dancer that lives in every body, no matter what its shape, size, age, limitations and experience. “Through re-connecting with our bodies, we can re-connect with each other and the wider world; whatever our history, our gender or our tribe may be”, says Chris Boylan, who will be running this session.

Don’t forget to wear loose clothing if you want to take part

The Stalls include plants, food, health and wellbeing (for humans and other animals), ethical nappies, art and crafts, products which are fair trade, local organic & ethical, campaign information - from Palestine to badgers, clothes, local veg, and much more.

Admission £1 Concessions 50p Donations welcome!

Don’t miss one of Beverley’s most interesting and enjoyable events - BE THERE!
