Carnival against despair

Love Music Hate Racism Carnival
Sunday 27 April
Victoria Park E3
Free entry

Across the capital, many people are looking for an alternative to the rotten politics of the mainstream parties. For years we have been given the choice; privatisation, racism and war under Tory governments or privatisation, racism and war under a Labour government. Quite understandably people are interested in different types of politics when it comes to getting involved. That's why the Left List has a good chance of gaining a seat on the Greater London Authority, and the chance to give a voice to ordinary working class people.

However, there are other voices emerging, ones that would be a huge set back for the majority of people should they find a resonance amongst voters. Nazis in the British National party are looking to make electoral advances, especially in areas outside the centre of London. They scapegoat migrants, fuel racist hatred and breed an atmosphere of fear and hatred wherever they organise.

That's why The Left list is proud to support the Love Music Hate Racism Carnival on Sunday 27 April. The event marks the 30th anniversary of the original Rock against Racism gig in Victoria Park.

Tens of thousands of people will be in Victoria Park this time round to hear the bands, the music and the message. The Good the Ba and The Queen are playing, the band includes Paul Simonen formerly of the Clash who played the gig 30 years back, Roll Deep, Hard-Fi, Jay Sean and Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly are amongst a brilliant and eclectic line up. For full details go to: The Love Music Hate Racism website.

The Left List urges all it's supporters to turn up to the carnival and send out a message that fascism and racism have no role in London, the biggest and most diverse city in Europe. We urge everyone to vote, especially in the London wide assembly election to help ensure that the BNP don't get 5% and a seat on the GLA, if that was to happen London would be the only world class city with a fascist on the council.

But more than that, voting for the Left List is the best way of keeping the British Nazi Party in the gutter. Mainstream parties have a history of 'tolerating' the presence of nazi organisations on elected bodies, Lindsey German has a history of no compromise with these disgraceful and dangerous nut cases. We need more than simply to back the Tory - Liberal - Labour status quo to defeat the BNP, we need active campaigners to destroy the conditions in which they breed.

So if you really want to see an end to the violent and despairing politics of the BNP, use your vote for the Left List on 1 May, especially in the vote for a London wide assembly member, on the peach coloured paper.
